Job Description:
Performs routine and non-routine laboratory testing under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor to support unit operations, engineering, and planning departments.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs analytical testing and reports results related to process unit samples and samples for certification.
- Performs laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, product development, round robin testing, regulatory samples, and commercial specifications.
- Testing conducted using various ASTM, AOCS, UOP and STM methods.
- Maintains records, schedules, and dialogs on daily, weekly, monthly, and random sampling.
- Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments such as microscopes, centrifuge, agitators, viscosimeter, chemical balance scales, spectrophotometer, gas chromatograph, colorimeter, and other equipment.
- Maintains a clean work area and sterilizes laboratory equipment.
- Performs calibrations on laboratory instruments and prepares chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Follows all safety rules and guidelines as established by refinery.
- Responds to fires, chemical or petroleum spills, leaks, injuries, etc. as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
