Job Responsibilities:
- Foster key relationships with the site selection consultants, major commercial real estate firms, site selection arms of the big 4 accounting firms, state departments of commerce, public/ private state economic development agencies, regional and local economic development leaders, and other key economic development allies for the purpose of positioning Duke territory as an attractive site selection destination.
- Leverage industrial site/real estate expertise to identify new site product within the Duke service area and work to advance the readiness of the site product for future industry attraction. This requires established effective working relationships with county economic development officials, engineering firms, railroads and other utilities.
- Develop strategies to maintain competitive service offerings and operational policies which stimulate growth
- Represent the NC team in overcoming site and electrical service challenges, serve as a key source of knowledge both internally and externally in developing successful solutions
- Serve as economic development manager, single point of contact, for a specific region of the service area
- Position the economic development team internally & externally as a key source of knowledge around regional, national & international issues to increase the overall value of Duke’s participation
- Work effectively & have the ability to influence Fortune 500 executives in major capital investment decisions, specifically the site selection for new manufacturing plants, corporate HQ, etc.
Job Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in leadership/management of an economic development organization with a primary focus on the recruitment of capital intensive industry
- Specific expertise in industrial site selection practices along with advancement/certification of industrial sites
- Established working relationship with State, Regional and Local economic development officials/agencies across the NC footprint. Specifically, the NC Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of NC, Regional Economic Development Partnerships and local county agencies
- Proven success in the recruitment of major industrial companies working with state and local economic development agencies along with site selection experts
- Expertise around economic development competitiveness, developing strategies to differentiate service offerings and understanding the attributes/selling points of existing NC counties and assets
- Established relationships with the site selection consulting community, large industrial/commercial real estate firms, big 4 accounting firm/site selection arms, corporate real estate executives, engineering consultants, railroads and other key site selection infouencers
- Proven ability to build a talent pipeline and develop skillset around economic development and industrial recruitment
- Business strategy and planning
- Experience with managing P&L (profit & loss), financial planning, budget development
- Sales experience with complex industrial deals
- External stakeholder engagement experience to include legislative and community leadership
