Nike Summer Internship – Principal Data Engineer – Dimensional Data Products

Job Description:

In this role, you’ll be instrumental in guiding and influencing multiple engineering teams to deliver innovative and quality data products enabled by consistent, scalable, maintainable solutions. We don’t need you to just code, you must also be able to solve unique and intricate data engineering problems that have broad impact on the Nike’s business. You will be the champion for ensuring our software is of the highest quality. You will be an advocate of new technology and development techniques and a capable, guiding partner to teams building extraordinary solutions for Nike Technology and its business partners.

Job Responsibilities:

• Keep a pulse on the industry and the enterprise. Research, evaluate and use new technologies/tools/frameworks centered around high-volume data processing. Continually innovate to address both current and future customer needs
• Design and implement innovative product features in collaboration with Business and Technology partners
• Create strategies for building or improvement of continuous integration, test-driven development and production deployment frameworks
• Define and establish best practices; drive collaborative review of designs, code, test plans and solution implementations performed by other data engineers in support of maintaining data engineering standards
• Collaborate with/across data engineering teams on designs and implementation details for distributed data processing pipelines using tools and languages prevalent in the big data ecosystem
• Define, design, and build utilities, user defined functions, libraries, and frameworks to better enable data flow patterns
• Develop technical strategies for new data projects and for the optimization of existing solutions which may include remediation of legacy solutions such as Teradata
• Collaborate with architecture and platform teams on end-to-end designs for enterprise-scale data and analytics solutions and data products
• Inform and influence both technical and business partners on technical strategies and approaches using clear, concise, fact- and experience-based information

Job Requirements:

• Familiarity with the principles of Domain Driven Design
• Experience with practices like Continuous Development, Continuous Integration and Automated Testing
• Ability to lead others in solving complex problems
• Experience with data warehousing concepts, SQL and SQL Analytical functions and working on solutions such as Teradata
• Proven ability to influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with team members and technical and business partners
• Extensive experience working with Hadoop and related processing frameworks such as Spark, Hive, etc
• 10+ years of relevant experience in large-scale software development, 5+ years of data engineering experience
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow
• Experience with build tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation and automation tools such as Jenkins or Circle CI
• Extensive experience with performance and scalability tuning
• Strong programming experience, Python or Scala preferred
• Experience designing, estimating and implementing complex software projects
• Experience with source code control tools like Github or Bitbucket
• MS/BS in Computer Science, or related technical subject area
• Experience with messaging/streaming/complex event processing tooling and frameworks with an emphasis on Spark Streaming or Structured
• Streaming and Apache Nifi
